What Shooting Star Tattoos May Represent
Shooting stars tattoos are one of the most popular designs in the tattoo industry. These tattoo designs come in a great variety, and adapt easily to different tattoo styles. While they may represent a powerful historical wish symbol for some people, other individuals ink their bodies with them simply to show their fascination with the sky. For many people, they represent wishes and hopes. From the moment we are children, we are taught to make a wish upon a shooting star, and many people still believe that by tattooing our bodies with a shooting star, our wishes come true. In ancient times, shooting stars were thought to be the souls of people who had died.
What Shooting Stars Really Are
In reality, shooting stars or falling stars as they are sometimes called, are not even stars at all! They are actually meteors. These amazing streaks are simply just bright trails that appear in the sky when bits of dust and rocks called meteoroids are burned up and vaporized by friction with the earth's atmosphere. These short-lived trails of light produced by the meteoroids are called meteors. If any parts of the meteoroids survive through the burning up process and hit the earth, they become meteorites. Meteoroids range typically from the size of a grain of dust to the size of a golf ball. The larger meteors are quite impressive to see at night, however, they are also very rare, so consider yourself very lucky if you've ever seen one that size. You should be able to see a meteor or"shooting star" every 15 minutes as millions of these particles collide with the earth's atmosphere every day.
